The Old Yew Tree Inn is delighted to be one of the few selected establishments for miles around to be chosen to serve Peak Choice meat. The Peak Choice ethos is to deliver the highest quality Peak District beef and lamb with the highest standards of animal welfare and environmental benefit and is an initiative inspired by HRH The Prince of Wales.
For generations small family farmers have reared high quality lamb and beef in the Peak District. It is their traditional farming methods, together with the climate that has helped shape the wonderful landscape that we enjoy today. Grazing the hills helps maintain the biodiversity in the area which is rich in flora and fauna.
All of the Peak Choice farms use only traditional farming methods to breed and rear their animals, working to the highest standards of animal welfare, and all are members of a recognised farm assurance scheme and part of an environmental stewardship. Peak Choice is committed to environmental best practice and undertakes regular environmental audits on all its operations, from farmers to packaging and distribution to energy consumption, and their carbon footprint is one of the lowest in the food supply chain sector.
